SOC CONTAINER
ARRANGEMENT

No container to send back — all the way inland.

For destinations carriers will not place their own boxes in, and for long inland legs where detention charges pile up, we arrange SOC (shipper-owned) containers on purchase terms.

WHY SOC ?

Three reasons to choose SOC over COC

01

No return, no detention

There is no obligation to return the box to an inland depot, which removes the risk of detention and demurrage being charged on top.

02

Reach where carriers won’t go

Inland CIS, Central Asia and Africa — regions where carrier boxes are restricted — can still be served on a CY basis.

03

A second life on arrival

The container can be reused as storage at destination, or simply sold locally.

SOC (shipper’s own) COC (carrier’s own)
Container return Not required (purchase) Must go back to a nominated depot
Free time No limit 7–14 days, then charged per day
Destinations served Wide, including inland and remote Main ports and major inland depots only
Up-front cost Container purchase is added Included in the ocean freight
Best suited to Used machinery, vehicles, long-dwell cargo Regular cargo to main ports

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are SOC containers new or used?

We normally propose cargo-worthy used containers. New (one-trip) containers can be arranged on request. Grade and year of manufacture are stated with the quotation.

Who owns the container after arrival?

The container belongs to the consignee on arrival and there is nothing to return.

Is there a minimum number of containers?

We accept single containers. Availability varies by destination and season, so please talk to us early if you need several.

Can you carry used cars and construction machinery?

Yes. We need to confirm lashing and weight distribution, so please send dimensions, weight and quantity. Dangerous goods are handled case by case.
